Dev, who previously belonged to Congress before joining TMC a few years back, met with Rajya Sabha chairman C P Radhakrishnan to submit her resignation.
She follows Sukhendu Sekhar Ray as the second TMC MP to step down this week, as Ray also resigned from both the party and the Rajya Sabha.
Sources indicate that Dev is expected to leave TMC and join the BJP, having already met with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
In her resignation letter, Dev stated, “I do hereby resign from the membership of Rajya Sabha, which may please be accepted with immediate effect.” She also expressed her gratitude in the letter to the Chairman, saying, “I convey my sincere gratitude to your excellency, hon’ble deputy chairman, and all functionaries of the Rajya Sabha secretariat extending all help and cooperation during my tenure as a member of the Rajya Sabha.”
The Trinamool Congress is experiencing internal turmoil following its loss in the West Bengal Assembly elections, with multiple party MPs deciding to create a separate faction and align with the ruling NDA.
A significant number of Trinamool’s 80 MLAs have already formed a distinct group led by Ritabrata Banerjee, who serves as the leader of the opposition in the state Assembly.
