The series kicks off on August 15 at the Galle International Stadium, with the second Test to take place at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) in Colombo from August 23 to 27.
In making this announcement, SLC expressed its intention to foster greater fan engagement and offer cricket lovers a chance to witness international Test cricket up close.
“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) is pleased to declare that entry to the forthcoming Test Series between Sri Lanka and India will be complimentary, providing fans with an outstanding opportunity to watch high-caliber Test cricket,” the board stated in an announcement.
The governing body also invited supporters nationwide to join in.
“Sri Lanka Cricket enthusiastically encourages cricket fans, young hopefuls, families, and sports lovers from around the country to seize this opportunity and immerse themselves in the thrill of international Test cricket between Sri Lanka and India,” the statement continued.
This decision arrives at a time when Test cricket has faced challenges in drawing significant crowds in Sri Lanka, with even marquee series involving India sometimes played before underpopulated stands. While the longest format still enjoys considerable backing in certain Indian cities like Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, attendance has often been modest throughout much of the subcontinent.
The two-match series is part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27, with both teams aiming to boost their positions in the contest for a spot in the final. India is also looking to maintain their unbeaten record in bilateral Test series in Sri Lanka, which has stood since 2008.
