Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Vishen Halambage Clash in Intense Super Over Showdown: Here's What Went Down
Teen batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi found himself at the center of a controversy following a confrontation with a Sri Lanka A player. The incident occurred after India A faced defeat in a nail-biting super over at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium.

Chasing 17 runs to win, India only managed to score nine against Kaguthas Mathulan, marking their second consecutive loss. Sooryavanshi, who faced the final three balls from Mathulan, scored just six runs, which included one boundary.

What sparked the altercation
According to a report by Cricbuzz, Vishen Sasmith Halambage instigated the verbal exchange by telling Sooryavanshi, “Match over… now you go home.” This remark prompted a strong reaction from the 15-year-old.

A video capturing the intense face-off is circulating on social media, showing Sooryavanshi confronting a Sri Lankan player and pushing him away.

The heated dispute escalated quickly, leading to physical contact between the two players, creating the potential for an all-out confrontation. Several teammates from Sri Lanka A intervened promptly to separate the two and restore calm.

Despite the heated incident, players from both teams proceeded with the traditional post-match handshake ceremony after tempers had cooled. However, the altercation involving Sooryavanshi and Halambage may still draw disciplinary attention, potentially affecting both players.

ICC Regulations

The ICC typically does not intervene in disciplinary issues during A-team series and does not assign match officials for those matches. Consequently, any sanctions resulting from this incident would represent an unusual and possibly unprecedented occurrence.

Cricbuzz reported that officials and players from Sri Lanka A discussed the possibility of issuing an apology to their India A counterparts following the controversy.

Next steps

However, at the time of reporting, no formal decision had been made. The report also indicated that captain Tilak Varma, who participated in the Super Over, had a heated discussion with match officials, while the hosts reportedly had concerns about conducting the tie-breaker.
