CID officials indicated that investigators were not satisfied with the responses provided by the Diamond Harbour MP during his previous interrogation, prompting this additional summons.
The CID has also called TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh for questioning the same day, and there is a possibility that both leaders may be interrogated simultaneously, according to an officer.
Ghosh is set to meet with CID officials at Bhaban Bhawan around 3 pm.
“Banerjee has been requested to submit specific documents pertinent to the case,” noted the CID officer.
On May 6, TMC legislators convened at Banerjee’s Kalighat residence and suggested the name of Sovandeb Chattopadhyay for the role of Leader of the Opposition. Those in attendance reportedly showed their support through a show of hands.
However, the formal proposal was not promptly submitted to the Assembly. After the swearing-in of TMC MLAs on May 13 and 14, the Assembly Secretariat requested a resolution from the party indicating its nominee for the position.
A new meeting was convened on May 19, during which a document with the signatures of 70 legislators supporting Chattopadhyay was submitted to the Assembly.
Subsequently, concerns were raised after discrepancies were allegedly found between signatures on various documents submitted by TMC MLAs.
This issue ultimately resulted in the filing of an FIR and a CID investigation. The state probe has already interrogated several legislators in relation to the case.
