Rohit Sharma Supports New T20I Captain Shreyas Iyer, Predicts Success Ahead.
Indian cricket star Rohit Sharma has expressed his confidence in the newly-appointed T20I captain Shreyas Iyer, emphasizing the significance of the T20 Mumbai League as a key platform for developing future cricket talent.

During the T20 Mumbai League 2026, Rohit noted that the challenging environment of Mumbai cricket equips players for top-tier leadership. “Playing in Mumbai imparts valuable lessons. If you ask anyone who has captained India or Mumbai, they’ll affirm this. Nothing comes easy here,” he remarked.

“Respect and captaincy are things you need to earn, and these players have done just that.”
The World Cup-winning Indian captain highlighted the journeys of Mumbai cricketers who have successfully led the national team, citing Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer as prime examples of resilience and leadership.
“You’ve seen Surya lead India to the World Cup final. Remember, he made his debut for India at the age of 31, if I recall correctly. This shows he never gave up and always aimed to be in the game. When the opportunity arose, he seized it with both hands—and succeeded.

“Now, with Shreyas stepping in as T20 captain, considering his leadership with his Mumbai franchise in recent years, I believe he’ll also excel in this role.”

Rohit also emphasized the vital role of the T20 Mumbai League in creating opportunities for emerging cricketers and fortifying Mumbai’s cricketing framework.

“We want a platform for all players to showcase their skills. This league is ideal for many participating in it. Last year was a tremendous success, and the turnout was impressive,” he remarked.

Calling the tournament an essential launchpad for aspiring players, he added: “For those who haven’t yet participated in the IPL, this serves as a significant opportunity. I’m confident many team owners will be watching, and players will strive to make their mark.”
