South Korea selects Han as its first female prime minister in 20 years.
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has appointed Han Seongsook, the current minister for small and midsize businesses and startups, as the new prime minister, according to the presidential office on Sunday.

If approved by parliament, Han will make history as the first female prime minister of South Korea in two decades.

Having previously led South Korea’s internet powerhouse Naver, Han is anticipated to spearhead the nation’s AI evolution, stated Kang Hoon-sik, the presidential chief of staff, during a press briefing.
”Han has the potential to convert South Korea’s economic progress—fueled by the semiconductor surge and increased exports—into inclusive growth benefiting all, including small and medium-sized enterprises,” Kang remarked.

The prime minister’s position is primarily ceremonial and administrative in South Korea’s presidential framework.
