The TMC leader, who previously cited health concerns and expressed his inability to respond to the summons, is now required to appear before investigators on June 8.
“We have instructed Aroop Biswas to meet with our officers on June 8. He received a notice today,” stated an officer from Bidhannagar Dakshin police station.
He was to meet with investigators by Friday after an FIR was filed against him by event organizer Shatadru Dutta, who accused the former minister of misconduct including ticket black-marketing, extortion, criminal intimidation, and cheating related to the high-profile football event in December 2005.
The event at the Salt Lake Stadium on December 13, 2025, turned chaotic as a large crowd entered the venue allegedly without valid access, resulting in security breaches and crowd disturbances.
Numerous attendees who purchased high-priced tickets reported that they could not get a proper view of Messi or enjoy the event due to congestion and mismanagement.
Messi exited the venue swiftly amid the uproar, leading to some angry spectators damaging parts of the stadium.
This controversy sparked a political uproar, placing blame on then sports minister Aroop Biswas for purported failures in event planning and crowd control.
Dutta was later arrested and spent 37 days in custody before being granted bail. After his release, he accused Biswas of being responsible for the event’s failure and the resulting losses for the organizers.
