Speculation Grows Over DMK-AIADMK Alliance as Governor Requests Confirmation on TVK Majority Assertion

Tamil Nadu Elections 2026: Assets and Holdings of MK Stalin, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, and Vijay
Amid the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) seeking alliances following a hung assembly in Tamil Nadu, discussions are intensifying in Chennai regarding a potential partnership between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), sources inform CNN-News18.

This speculation comes after TVK Chief Vijay’s meeting with state governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar to assert his claim for forming the government in Tamil Nadu.

Actor-turned-politician and TVK Chief Vijay — who made a notable entry in the state assembly elections — secured 108 out of 234 seats. However, this fell short of the 118 needed for a majority.
The TVK had reached out to Congress, VCK, and Left parties to garner support in forming the government.

Although Congress — which won five seats — has pledged its support to the TVK, the latter still requires five additional seats to achieve a majority.

The AIADMK has dismissed the possibility of supporting the TVK; Deputy Coordinator K.P. Munusamy stated, “Regardless of the circumstances, AIADMK will not support TVK,” as reported by news agency ANI.

Governor ‘not convinced’ of Vijay’s numbers

Tamil Nadu governor Arlekar remains skeptical about the TVK’s numerical claims, sources told CNN-News18, following Vijay’s visit to Lok Bhavan on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Vijay presented a comprehensive letter including the signatures of 108 MLAs endorsing him as their preferred choice for Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, sources revealed.
