Sunetra Pawar Steps Down from Rajya Sabha Following Baramati By-Election Victory

Baramati Bypoll: Sunetra Pawar Anticipated to Gain from Wave of Sympathy
Just two days after securing a historic victory in the Baramati assembly bypoll, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister and NCP president Sunetra Pawar resigned from her position as a Rajya Sabha member on Wednesday. Her resignation was submitted to the Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan, as confirmed by her son and Rajya Sabha MP Parth Pawar.
Sunetra Pawar achieved a remarkable victory in the Baramati by-election, which was held following the passing of her husband Ajit Pawar, winning by an unprecedented margin of 2,18,034 votes.
She was elected to the Rajya Sabha in June 2024 after a defeat in the Lok Sabha elections. Sunetra Pawar took the oath as Maharashtra’s Deputy CM on January 31, shortly after her husband Ajit Pawar tragically died in a plane crash in Baramati.
