Meta acquires Assured Robot Intelligence to enhance humanoid robotics and expand Meta Superintelligence Labs and Meta Robotics Studio.
Meta Platforms Inc. has acquired Assured Robot Intelligence, a startup focused on developing AI models for robotics, as part of a significant effort to advance humanoid technology.

The tech giant finalized the acquisition on Friday, as confirmed by a spokesperson. Meta indicated that the startup is “at the frontier of robotic intelligence designed to enable robots to understand, predict and adapt to human behaviors in complex and dynamic environments.” The financial details were not revealed.

The Assured Robot Intelligence team, which includes co-founders Lerrel Pinto and Xiaolong Wang, will be integrated into the Meta Superintelligence Labs research division. They will collaborate closely with the Meta Robotics Studio, a team established last year to develop foundational technology for humanoids.
Meta is making substantial investments in humanoids—advanced robots capable of human-like movement and assistance with physical tasks. This burgeoning sector is gaining traction among major industry players, including Tesla Inc., Alphabet Inc.’s Google, and Amazon.com Inc.

Wang previously worked as a researcher at Nvidia Corp., and Pinto co-founded Fauna Robotics before departing in 2025. Amazon acquired Fauna in March to strengthen its own humanoid robot initiatives.

Assured Robot Intelligence’s workforce is primarily based in San Diego and New York. At Meta, this team “will bring deep expertise in how we can design our models and frontier capabilities for robot control and self-learning for whole-body humanoid control,” stated the spokesperson for the social media giant.

Meta’s robotics division aims to leverage technology from the startup while developing in-house humanoid hardware and the corresponding AI. This includes creating sensors, software, and other technologies for robots that will be shared across the industry, potentially benefiting a variety of companies.

Meta’s ambition is to establish a foundational support similar to what Google’s Android operating system and Qualcomm Inc.’s chips provided for the smartphone industry, as reported by Bloomberg News last year.
