This statement coincides with allegations of sexual harassment and forced religious conversions made by eight female employees at the TCS office in Nashik—an incident that has attracted significant scrutiny and raised serious concerns.
On Monday, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran expressed that the sexual harassment allegations at TCS Nashik are “gravely concerning and anguishing,” announcing an investigation under a senior executive.
Nasscom highlighted that the Indian technology industry is founded on principles of respect, dignity, and safety.
The organization operates under stringent governance frameworks and clear standards for employee safety and workplace behavior, according to Nasscom.
Any instance of misconduct or harassment is taken with utmost seriousness, with organizations implementing swift and appropriate disciplinary actions in accordance with established protocols. Such incidents are isolated and do not signify a systemic issue within the industry,” they stated.
Ensuring employee safety and well-being remains a critical priority, and the sector upholds a zero-tolerance stance toward any form of inappropriate conduct.
“Companies within the industry have enhanced preventive and redressal mechanisms, supported by well-defined codes of conduct and full compliance with legal standards to ensure that concerns are resolved quickly, fairly, and with the necessary sensitivity,” the IT association remarked.
Maintaining safe, respectful, and accountable workplaces is essential for nurturing a trusted work environment at every level, Nasscom indicated.
Chandrasekaran said on Monday: “The complaints and allegations arising from the Nashik branch of Tata Consultancy Services have been gravely concerning and anguishing.”
He further announced that a comprehensive investigation is in progress under TCS’ Chief Operating Officer, Arathi Subramanian, to ascertain the facts and hold accountable those responsible.
“This incident is being treated with the utmost seriousness. Action has already been taken against the accused individuals, and the company is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigations,” remarked Chandrasekaran, who previously served as TCS’ chief executive and managing director before becoming the group chairman.
He reiterated that the group adheres to a “zero-tolerance policy” against any form of coercion or misconduct by its employees.
Appropriate and stringent action will be pursued against individuals found guilty during the investigation, and necessary improvements or corrective actions will be implemented and thoroughly enforced.
Last week, police established a special investigation team (SIT) to look into the allegations made by the eight employees, who claimed they were subjected to mental and sexual harassment by senior staff, while the human resources department ignored their grievances.
Since then, police have arrested seven individuals, including the company’s female HR manager.
