Yoga practitioners are set to stretch and engage in deep breathing exercises to enhance flexibility and well-being in Hillsboro, Oregon, a center for semiconductor and electronic industries, and at the Shrinathji Haveli, a temple in Irvine, Southern California, recognized for its exquisite architecture and serene atmosphere.
The Indian Embassy in Washington encourages yoga lovers to partake in the IDY festivities at the Lincoln Memorial on June 19. Since 2015, the International Day of Yoga has been celebrated annually on June 21.
Recently, the Lincoln Memorial has garnered attention due to the renovation of the 2000-foot reflecting pool situated between it and the Washington Monument, a highly recognizable landmark in the US capital.
In preparation for the celebrations, the Embassy hosted a yoga session at DuPont Circle in downtown Washington on Saturday. Additionally, it is backing various yoga day activities organized by local community groups throughout the area.
H R Nagendra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s yoga mentor, will lead the IDY activities at iconic Times Square in New York on June 21, organized by the Consulate General of India in New York.
Before the celebrations, Nagendra will launch a special yoga and wellness retreat in Monticello, New York, from June 12 to 14. His visit to the US is arranged through the Rajasthan Association of North America (RANA), BRUHUD NY Seniors, and Jaipur Foot USA.
The retreat will include yoga sessions, meditation, lectures on stress management, healthy aging, holistic wellness, and interactive discussions with community leaders, healthcare providers, and wellness experts.
“Yoga is more than just movement—it nurtures balance, mindfulness, and a journey to inner peace. Prepare to celebrate the 12th International Day of Yoga as we promote wellness, community, and healthier living,” the Consulate General of India in Chicago shared in a post on X.
The Chicago event will take place at Polk Bros Park at Navy Pier, which has evolved into a key waterfront performance venue over the past decade. This year’s IDY theme is ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging,’ emphasizing yoga’s impact on longevity, mobility, and preventative healthcare.
On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. The inaugural International Day of Yoga was celebrated on June 21, 2015, and millions worldwide have commemorated this day each year since.
