With Rising Demand for Data Centre Cooling, India to Propel Carrier’s Next Growth Phase: CEO Gitlin

India's data center expansion could require $70–80 billion by 2030 due to increasing demand for AI and cloud services.
Carrier Global, an American multinational, is strategically positioning itself to capitalize on the surge in global data center investments, with India emerging as a significant demand driver, Chairman and CEO David Gitlin shared with CNBC-TV18.

Gitlin emphasized that the swift growth of hyperscale data centers and digital infrastructure is presenting a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” for the company, especially in cooling solutions. He pointed out that Carrier’s data center cooling sector has experienced substantial growth, doubling from $500 million to $1 billion by 2025 and anticipated to increase further.

“This year, we project a 50% increase to $1.5 billion, and internally we aim to achieve even higher results,” Gitlin remarked, mentioning that the company is already stacking its order backlog for 2027 and 2028.
India is set to play a pivotal role in this expansion. Gitlin noted that the nation’s data center capacity could grow almost tenfold, fueled by investments from global hyperscalers like Microsoft, Google, and AWS, alongside domestic enterprises.
“When evaluating this data center opportunity, one significant step Carrier has taken is investing in innovation. We now offer a comprehensive product portfolio,” he stated, highlighting advanced cooling technologies such as high-capacity chillers and integrated systems.

The company is also utilizing its engineering resources in India to propel global innovation. Gitlin elaborated that a significant portion of Carrier’s digital and AI-driven capabilities is being developed in India, particularly in Hyderabad, where dedicated teams focus on intelligent cooling and energy efficiency solutions customized for high-density data centers.

The broader economic growth in India further enhances the demand outlook. Gitlin mentioned that the expansion in commercial real estate, healthcare, and urban infrastructure is bolstering long-term growth in climate control solutions.
