West Bengal Outcomes: Reflecting on BJP's Commitments to Employment, Healthcare, and Uniform Civil Code
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has achieved a groundbreaking win in West Bengal. This outcome extends the BJP’s influence throughout the nation. For the first time, the BJP is poised to establish a government in the state, marking the end of Mamata Banerjee’s 15-year tenure.

The saffron party’s campaign slogan, “Bhoy out, Bharosa in,” resonated well with the electorate, effectively challenging and surpassing the TMC’s entrenched “Maa Maati Manush” narrative.

According to Samik Bhattacharya, the oath-taking ceremony for the new Chief Minister of West Bengal is set for May 9, as confirmed to ANI.

The focus now shifts to the party’s election manifesto as anticipation builds regarding the fulfillment of its significant commitments in the state. Here are the party’s main pledges from the election manifesto.

Focus on security and governance

The BJP promises a firm crackdown on infiltration to enhance national security. It also aims to release a white paper addressing alleged corruption and the deterioration of law and order under the TMC. Strategies to eliminate syndicate activities and minimize the ‘cut money’ culture are central to its agenda.

Jobs and economic growth

A key highlight of the manifesto is the promise to create one crore jobs within five years, along with promoting self-employment. The party has also committed to providing ₹3,000 in financial aid for unemployed youth. Plans to develop West Bengal into a primary industrial and fish-export hub are included, with a focus on enhancing economic infrastructure.

Farmers and traditional industries

The BJP has promised fair pricing for farmers growing rice, potatoes, and mangoes. The party also aims to revitalize old tea gardens, elevate Darjeeling tea branding, and modernize the jute industry to bolster livelihoods and regional economies.

Women empowerment and welfare

The manifesto strongly prioritizes women’s welfare, proposing ₹3,000 monthly financial support, a 33% reservation in state government positions, and improved safety measures through dedicated police battalions and specialized squads.

Healthcare and social schemes

Expanding access to healthcare is another vital area of focus. The BJP has pledged to implement Ayushman Bharat, offer free HPV vaccinations, conduct breast cancer screenings, and establish institutions like AIIMS, IIT, and IIM in North Bengal to enhance public services.

Legal and cultural initiatives

Among its significant legal proposals, the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code and stricter regulations to combat cattle smuggling are highlighted. The party has also committed to including Kurmali and Rajbongshi languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution and to creating a Vande Mataram Museum. The BJP reaffirms its dedication to ensuring freedom of religious practices.
