ECI Results Tamil Nadu Election 2026 Live Updates: Actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has gained a significant foothold in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections by winning 106 seats and leading in one additional constituency.
The counting for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections commenced at 8:00 am on May 4, under stringent three-tier security at 62 locations. Votes from more than 75,000 polling stations and postal ballots are being counted, with results being updated on a round-wise basis.
Actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged as the leading contender, ahead in approximately 108–109 of the 234 constituencies—closing in on the majority target of 118.
Celebrations erupted at the party’s headquarters in Panaiyur, with supporters referring to Vijay as “Chief Minister.” Visuals also captured his father, S. A. Chandrasekhar, celebrating the party’s impressive showing.
The trends indicate a significant challenge for the governing DMK led by Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, who is trailing in Kolathur. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin is also falling behind in Chepauk-Thiruvalikeni, along with several senior DMK ministers, including Duraimurugan.
Current trends suggest that TVK is leading in around 109 seats, with AIADMK following at approximately 63 and DMK at about 40. TVK is making strides across regions, including Chennai and the western Kongu belt, where AIADMK has traditionally been strong. Vijay himself is leading in Tiruchirappalli East and Perambur.
If this trend continues, TVK could make history by forming a government merely two years after its inception—an unprecedented feat in Tamil Nadu. Since 1967, the state’s politics has been dominated by DMK and AIADMK. A TVK victory would disrupt this long-standing binary political divide.
The AIADMK, under Edappadi K. Palaniswami, is making headway in certain constituencies, while the BJP is leading in a few seats. Furthermore, exit polls suggesting a DMK advantage seem misaligned, as early results indicate a strong wave of anti-incumbency.
Overall, TVK’s performance hints at a significant political realignment in Tamil Nadu, which could potentially reshape the state’s electoral framework if it secures a majority.
