US President Donald Trump announces Iran's commitment to refrain from developing nuclear weapons as negotiations proceed.
US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that Iran has consented to never develop a nuclear weapon, confirming that discussions between Washington and Tehran aimed at reducing ongoing tensions are actively taking place.

“Iran has agreed they will never have a nuclear weapon,” Trump told reporters, characterizing the assurance as a potential turning point even as negotiations are ongoing.

In discussing his push for a ceasefire, Trump remarked that the exchanges with Iranian officials have been productive. “The fact that they are engaging with us and speaking rationally… it all begins with: they cannot have a nuclear weapon,” he noted, indicating that Tehran had accepted this condition.
Speaking from the Oval Office, the US president mentioned that negotiations are underway but did not offer details or confirm whether envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner would be involved in this week’s discussions.

Trump maintained an optimistic outlook regarding the likelihood of a deal, asserting that Iran was eager to come to an agreement. “We’re actually communicating with the right individuals and they want to finalize a deal so much… They are going to make a deal,” he expressed.

His comments emerge amid rising tensions in West Asia, with diplomatic avenues appearing to reopen. Pakistan has expressed its readiness to facilitate potential discussions between the US and Iran, providing a potentially neutral location.

Trump also briefly alluded to the strategic Strait of Hormuz, mentioning a “very big” gift related to oil and gas, although he did not provide further context.

While indicating progress, Trump refrained from specifying timelines or concrete conditions, emphasizing the aim of securing a comprehensive agreement with Tehran.
