Thrissur, often referred to as the cultural capital of Kerala, became a focal point during the 2026 Assembly elections.

Rajan J Pallan from the Indian National Congress secured the seat with 60,290 votes, surpassing his nearest rival by 26,803 votes. Alankode Leelakrishnan from the Communist Party of India received 33,487 votes.

The 2026 elections highlighted Thrissur as a prominent seat, featuring a fierce contest between the LDF, UDF, and NDA. Historically known for close margins, the constituency remains unpredictable, with no clear leading candidate this time.

Designated as Constituency No 67, it forms one of the 140 constituencies of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. Thrissur garnered national media attention when Suresh Gopi won the Thrissur Lok Sabha seat in 2024.

Over the years, Thrissur has experienced intense political rivalry, primarily between the LDF led by CPI(M) and the UDF led by Congress.

Power dynamics have shifted between these two fronts, reflecting the constituency’s vibrant political environment. The BJP has steadily increased its vote share, positioning itself as a formidable player in recent elections.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, P. Balachandran from the CPI narrowly triumphed over Congress candidate Padmaja Venugopal. BJP leader Suresh Gopi placed third, transforming the election into a competitive three-way race.
