US-Iran War Live Updates: Recent strikes have affected several locations in southern Iran, notably close to the Bushehr nuclear facility, as reported by local officials and state media. Explosions were also noted in Bandar Abbas, according to Mehr News Agency.
A US official informed Al Jazeera that the American military was not behind the recent strikes. The official asserted that discussions with Tehran were ongoing despite three days of escalating military confrontations, even after President Donald Trump declared the truce with Iran “over” earlier this week.
This renewed violence coincided with mourners in Mashhad on Thursday gathering for the funeral of Iran’s late Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who died in a joint US-Israeli strike on February 28, marking the beginning of the war on Iran.
Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, stated that the Israeli military was prepared to conduct further strikes against Iran. “The army is on high alert and ready to re-engage, aiming to regain air superiority and target Iran again, to neutralize threats, including a third response if needed,” he remarked.
In addition, Israeli forces have sustained their operations against Gaza and Lebanon, contributing to the expanding dimensions of the conflict.
The sequence of unexplained strikes on Iranian territory, coupled with denials of US involvement and Israel’s clear threats of additional action, highlights the precariousness of the truce Trump had announced just days prior.
