Parag, who captained Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026, has been ruled out after worsening a hamstring injury sustained during the tournament. The all-rounder is anticipated to be out for approximately three months, including recovery time.
Gaikwad’s selection presents a valuable chance for the Maharashtra batsman, who will now participate in the tri-series featuring India A, Sri Lanka A, and Afghanistan A.
The tournament is set to commence on June 9 in Sri Lanka and will provide a significant opportunity for emerging talents to assert their case for higher recognition.
“The Men’s Selection Committee has included Ruturaj Gaikwad in the India A squad for the forthcoming tri-series in Sri Lanka. He takes the place of vice-captain Riyan Parag, who is unable to participate due to a hamstring injury,” the BCCI stated in a media release.
“Riyan’s rehabilitation will be overseen by the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE),” the release indicated.
Revised India A squad for tri-series: Tilak Varma (captain), Ruturaj Gaikwad (vice-captain), Priyansh Arya, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Ayush Badoni, Nishant Sindhu, Suryansh Shedge, Prabhsimran Singh (WK), Kumar Kushagra (WK), Vipraj Nigam, Yash Thakur, Yudhvir Singh, Anshul Kamboj, Arshad Khan, Anukul Roy.
