Recycled Fashion Show returns for one night

The Rock For Water: Recycled Fashion Show will return for one night only at the Lorain Palace Theatre, 617 Broadway, to help support FireFish Arts in Lorain.

The fashion show will start at 7 p.m. May 17.

According to event founder and co-organizer Peggy Sinibaldi, the show will feature six sponsored teams sporting unique fashion looks made of recycled material.

“It just is such a unique thing,” Sinibaldi said.

Each of the six teams are themed, featuring exotic animals, lake effect and musical icons, Sinibaldi said.

Recycled looks reflect the team theme, and can feature material like used clothing, paper, packing material, bubble wrap, styrofoam, dryer sheets, newspaper and more, she said.

“The saying is reduce, reuse, recycle,” Sinibaldi said. “We’re taking trash from the universe, anything that we find.

“We’re repurposing it and putting it into our outfits. People love to see the recycled outfits up-close.”

As with years past, the show will feature elements of music and stimulating visuals to help provide a unique experience, according to Sinibaldi.

The show will open and close with performances from singers Kiki Bilderstein and Jaclyn Bradley, who owns Rock Town Music School in downtown Lorain.

“It’s become a really unique performance,” Sinibaldi said.

A panel of judges will vote for their overall team, according to Sinibaldi.

The audience also will have a chance to have their say with votes for $1 each, she said.

There will be two winners in each category with a prize of $500 each.

However, a team can be eligible for both prizes, Sinibaldi said

“They’re all going to be competing,” she said. “It’s about the excitement of it.”

Sinibaldi, who once owned A. David Salon and Spa in Lorain, said she initiated the production as a small event with live music, courtesy of her son Jonathan, as a way to raise awareness and funds for clean water and sustainability efforts.

“We’re just ordinary people and we are using our creativity and our imagination to put on a really, really fun show,” she said.

According to Joan Perch, artistic director and founder of the FireFish Arts, Sinibaldi connected with her as a result of the Follow the Fish Art and Adventure Trails, the first public art campaign in Lorain County, and the Rock for Water events.

Sinibaldi reached out with hopes to reprise the fashion show, and help benefit FireFish Arts with a fundraiser, as the organization will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year, Perch said.

“They’ve always been big supporters of FireFish and good things happening in Lorain,” she said. “We, of course, jumped at the opportunity.

“We just feel really lucky and blessed.”
