VD Satheesan, the Leader of Opposition in the state assembly and candidate for the Paravur assembly seat, shared Good Friday wishes in a Facebook post, while Congress’ Vattiyoorkavu candidate K Muraleedharan participated in a ‘Way of Cross’ procession in the state capital.
State Water Resources Minister and Kerala Congress (M) leader Roshy Augustine, who is vying for the Idukki assembly constituency, ascended the Malayattoor hills in the Ernakulam district, home to the renowned St Thomas church.
Alongside Augustine, thousands of devotees also trekked the Malayattoor hills, as the Christian community in the state opted to forgo luxuries and physical comforts to engage in special prayers at churches during this occasion.
Believers were seen making their way up the hills, carrying wooden crosses of various sizes on their shoulders and hands.

The hill is thought to have been visited by Apostle St Thomas in AD 52.
Church leaders issued messages calling for global peace on this occasion.
Devotees gathered in large crowds at churches starting in the morning to participate in various rituals, reflecting on the sufferings of Jesus Christ 2000 years ago and his crucifixion.
Across denominations, ‘Good Friday’ services were conducted in most churches throughout the southern state.
Numerous individuals walked while carrying wooden crosses to commemorate the final moments of Christ, as part of the ‘Way of Cross’ processions organized by various churches.
It was observed as a day of prayer and penance among traditional Christian families in the state, who chose to forgo all worldly comforts to mark the day, remembering the tribulations of Christ.
