Keralam, Assam, Puducherry Assembly Elections Voting Live Updates: The 2026 Assembly polls have commenced in Keralam, Assam, and Puducherry, with over 5.3 crore voters set to make pivotal decisions, and results are expected on May 4 along with those from West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
The voting is being held in a single phase across 296 constituencies — 140 in Keralam, 126 in Assam, and 30 in Puducherry — commencing at 7 am and running until evening.
Extensive security measures, webcasting options, and logistical assistance have been put in place by authorities to ensure a seamless voting experience.
In Assam, the elections are primarily viewed as a contest between the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-led opposition coalition. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma aims to secure a third consecutive term for the NDA, while Gaurav Gogoi leads the opposition’s campaign.
Regional parties like the All India United Democratic Front, Raijor Dal, and Assam Jatiya Parishad are also expected to play a significant role in determining the results in various constituencies. The state boasts nearly 2.5 crore registered voters participating across over 31,000 polling stations.
In Keralam, the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) faces off against the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF). Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan is vying for a rare third consecutive term, while the opposition aims to leverage anti-incumbency sentiments and governance concerns.
The BJP-led NDA is also striving to enhance its influence within the 140-member Assembly. About 2.71 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes, with women constituting a majority of the electorate.
Puducherry’s polling is characterized by a three-way battle among the NDA, the Congress–DMK coalition, and actor Vijay’s newly established Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
An estimated 9.5 lakh voters will select from 294 candidates across 1,099 polling stations in Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam. Special provisions for elderly and differently-abled voters, drone surveillance, and heightened security measures have been implemented.
Vote counting for all three regions will occur on May 4, alongside the results for West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
