Pilgrimage to Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Restarts After Brief Halt Due to High Crowd Volume
The pilgrimage to the Mata Vaishno Devi temple on the Trikuta hills in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district resumed on Sunday after being temporarily halted due to a heavy influx of visitors, officials stated.

Authorities announced the suspension of the pilgrimage to the cave shrine on Saturday because of the large number of devotees at the Bhawan, with 39,000 individuals having visited the temple by late afternoon.

Chaitra Navratri commenced on March 19 and will conclude on March 27.
“The yatra has been resumed following a temporary halt due to the crowd at the Bhawan,” remarked a shrine board official. He noted that registration for the yatra reopened this morning in Katra.

So far, nearly one lakh devotees have visited the shrine, with officials ensuring effective and secure arrangements for the pilgrimage.

On Saturday, over 39,000 pilgrims arrived in the holy town of Katra and offered their prayers at the Mata Vaishno Devi temple, according to officials.

Officials also mentioned that more than 5,000 additional pilgrims were heading towards the cave shrine after completing their registration, with a significant number crowding the registration center.

Devotees chanting ‘Jai Mata Di’ trekked along the winding path to the Mata Vaishno Devi temple atop Trikuta hills on the third day of Navratri, seeking blessings from the deity.

The cave shrine, adorned with an array of fresh flowers that fill the air with fragrance and illuminated with vibrant lights, is experiencing a significant surge in pilgrims.

Authorities have established multi-tier security measures at the Katra base camp and along the route to the shrine to guarantee a safe and secure yatra.

The sacred Shat Chandi Maha Yagya began at the esteemed Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine on Thursday, marking the auspicious start of Chaitra Navratri 2026.
