Oliver Kahn: We'll Never Witness a Rivalry Like Messi and Ronaldo Again in Football.
German football icon Oliver Kahn asserts that Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have forged a rivalry that is truly unprecedented, as their unwavering quest for excellence has driven each other to remarkable heights over the last two decades.

In reflecting on one of football’s most significant debates, Kahn emphasized how the two legends have turned competition into a catalyst for greatness, achieving a level of consistency and durability that may never be matched.

“Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have challenged each other for nearly twenty years, and it’s truly astonishing to witness the quality of football they continue to deliver. Each season, they have inspired one another to elevate their game further,” Kahn told Zee5.
“Football might never experience another rivalry that embodies such consistency and excellence.”

Reflecting on his unforgettable 2002 FIFA World Cup journey, where he became the only goalkeeper ever to secure the Golden Ball, despite Germany finishing as runners-up, Kahn shared the pride he felt in that achievement, while acknowledging that the ultimate dream for every player is to lift the World Cup trophy.

“The 2002 World Cup was among the most remarkable moments of my career. Losing the final still stings because, as an athlete, winning—especially the World Cup—is everything. Yet, with time, you start to value the journey, the camaraderie, and the experiences you had with the team.”

“Receiving the Golden Ball as a goalkeeper was a tremendous privilege and something very special. Still, I would gladly trade it for a World Cup trophy.”

Offering his guidance to goalkeepers at football’s highest level, the former Germany captain encouraged young players to embrace pressure, focus on continuous learning, and stay present during every moment of the tournament.

“My message to young players is straightforward: learn, learn, and keep learning. Most importantly, learn to savor pressure instead of dreading it. At the World Cup, the entire world is watching you, and that is precisely why you play football.”
