The 27-year-old Chopra secured the win with a first round throw of 88.16m in a competitive field that included five athletes who have surpassed the 90m mark. His second throw reached 85.10m, but his next three attempts were fouls, finishing with a sixth throw of 82.89m.
Weber took second place with a throw of 87.88m in his opening attempt, while Brazil’s Luiz Mauricio Da Silva followed in third with a third round throw of 86.62m. Chopra had previously exceeded the 90m mark during the Doha leg of the Diamond League on May 16, recording a throw of 90.23m for a second place finish. Weber had emerged victorious in Doha with a final throw of 91.06m.
The 31-year-old Weber had also outperformed Chopra at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial meet on May 23 in Poland, where both athletes struggled in cold and overcast conditions. Weber achieved a throw of 86.12m while Chopra managed only 84.14m, finishing second.
Chopra last won a Diamond League title in Lausanne in June 2023 with a distance of 87.66m. Since then, he has claimed second place in six Diamond League events until this victory.
This marks Chopra’s inaugural win at the Paris leg of the esteemed Diamond League series. He last appeared in the Paris meet in 2017, as a junior world champion, finishing fifth with a throw of 84.67m.
The two-time Olympic medallist from India kicked off the 2025 season with a victory at an invitational event in Potchefstroom, South Africa, achieving a throw of 84.52m in a minor—category F—tournament.
On June 24, Chopra will participate in the Golden Spike athletics meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic. Following that, the reigning world champion will take part in the inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic on July 5 in Bengaluru, a World Athletics category A event which he is hosting.
