During the airport ceremony, the Prime Minister will unveil an 80-foot statue of Assam’s inaugural chief minister, Gopinath Bardoloi, which has been placed outside the new Guwahati airport terminal building. The statue was crafted by renowned artist Ram Sutar, who passed away on December 17 at the age of 101.
Sutar also created the 125-foot statue of Ahom general Lachit Barphukan in Jorhat, commemorating his significant victory over Mughal forces. That monument was inaugurated by Modi in March 2024.
Following the unveiling, the Prime Minister will open the ₹4,000-crore airport terminal and is anticipated to spend approximately 15 minutes at the venue. He will subsequently address a public meeting near the terminal complex on Saturday.

After leaving the airport, Modi will participate in a roadshow to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s state headquarters in the Basistha area, where he will engage with party workers. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has highlighted the visit as unprecedented, noting it is the first occasion a Prime Minister will visit a BJP office in Assam, calling it a “historic occasion”.
According to a party official, the interaction with party workers holds extra importance with assembly elections looming in the state early next year.
The Prime Minister is set to stay overnight at the state guest house in Koinadhora, located in the Khanapara area of Guwahati.

On Sunday, Modi will start the day by interacting with 25 meritorious students from various schools as part of the ‘Pariksha pe Charcha’ programme. This session, lasting about half an hour, will take place aboard the cruise vessel ‘Charaideo’ while navigating the Brahmaputra.
He will then head to the newly established ‘Swahid Smarak Kshetra’, a memorial dedicated to the 860 lives lost during the Assam Movement that began in 1979. The Prime Minister will pay his respects at the site, visit the martyrs’ gallery, and garland the statue of the first martyr, Khargeswar Talukdar.
Later, Modi will travel to Dibrugarh and Namrup to participate in the ‘Bhumi pujan’ ceremony for the ₹12,000-crore ammonia-urea fertiliser plant. Officials have stated that this project is projected to significantly boost the state’s growth and development.
He will also address a public meeting at Namrup before returning to New Delhi. Welcoming the Prime Minister, Sarma posted on social media platform X: “A warm welcome to Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi ji to the land of Maa Kamakhya and Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev.”
