This latest move highlights xAI’s ambitious strategy to more effectively compete with industry frontrunners like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Anthropic’s Claude through the development of increasingly sophisticated models. The firm’s supercomputer cluster in Memphis, Tennessee, referred to as Colossus, is claimed to be the largest in the world.
“xAI has secured a third building known as MACROHARDRR,” Musk stated on X, without revealing its location. The name could possibly reference Microsoft.

The Information, which first reported this news based on property records and insights from a source familiar with the undertaking, indicated that the new data center will be located outside of Memphis.
xAI plans to enhance its Colossus supercomputer to accommodate at least 1 million graphics processing units.
The company is set to begin transforming the newly acquired warehouse into a data center by 2026, according to The Information, noting that both the new data center and Colossus 2 will be situated near a natural gas power plant that xAI is constructing in the vicinity, along with other power sources.

However, the growth of AI infrastructure has faced pushback from environmental activists due to the significant energy consumption associated with data centers.
xAI did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
