Zuckerberg is forming this new AI group alongside an investment of more than $10 billion in Scale AI, according to Bloomberg News sources, who also indicated that Alexandr Wang, the founder of Scale AI, is anticipated to join the AGI team once the agreement is finalized.
Reuters has not yet been able to confirm the Bloomberg report. Meta has not provided a comment upon a request outside of standard business hours.
Zuckerberg’s initiative to personally recruit around 50 individuals, including a new leader for AI research within the AGI team, stems in part from dissatisfaction with the performance and feedback regarding Meta’s latest large language model, Llama 4, Bloomberg News reported.
Last month, Meta postponed the launch of its flagship “Behemoth” AI model due to concerns about its abilities, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Competitors like OpenAI are also looking to make adjustments to attract more investment in their quest to develop AGI.
