US-Iran War Live Updates: Hundreds of thousands of Iranians convened at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla on Sunday, July 5, to pay their last respects to the deceased Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and his immediate family members, marking the beginning of several days of mourning and funeral rituals.

Three of Khamenei’s sons — Mostafa, Meysam, and Masoud — were observed praying beside the coffins, while Mojtaba Khamenei, the new supreme leader, did not make a public appearance.

The ceremonies are also perceived as a public demonstration of continuity by Iran’s leadership following Khamenei’s assassination, who had governed the nation for nearly forty years. His coffin is anticipated to be transported to Tehran’s Freedom Square before proceeding to Qom on July 7, and then to the Iraqi cities of Karbala and Najaf on July 8, concluding in Mashhad for burial on July 9.

In the meantime, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf referred to the recently signed MoU as a political and military “victory for the Axis of Resistance,” asserting that the US and Israel have been compelled to recognize Iran’s regional allies.

In the oil sector, seven OPEC+ members have agreed to elevate production quotas by 188,000 barrels per day starting in August, as Gulf producers recover from months of disrupted exports due to the near-paralysis of the Strait of Hormuz.
