During an inspection of Ms Medtabs Pharma Private Ltd in Kolhapur on June 8, a significant stock of allopathic medicines, particularly antibiotic injections, was discovered.
The establishment was unable to provide the required licenses and valid documentation concerning the purchase and sale of these medicines, according to the FDA.
This was deemed a violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. Samples of the medicines have been taken for testing, and a total of 29 types of medicines valued at ₹13.62 lakh have been confiscated.
Samples were sent for further testing, the FDA noted.
In a separate operation, the agency conducted a raid at Cipla Pharma and Life Sciences’ warehouse on June 8.
During the inspection, it was found that the packaging of “Rectin Plus Tablets,” a prescription medication listed under Schedule H, included promotional advertising that contradicted the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945.

Consequently, stock of the affected medication valued at approximately ₹11,19,000 was seized, the agency reported.
Following this action, FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe emphasized that medicines should only be procured from authorized vendors.
The manufacturing, distribution, and sale of illegal medicines will face strict repercussions, and those jeopardizing public health will be held accountable. Such enforcement will persist, Mundhe cautioned.
