Lava spewed from Mount Etna between the night of Monday, May 12, and the early hours of Tuesday, May 13, as the active stratovolcano in Catania, Italy, experienced its 13th eruptive episode. This footage, captured by Giuseppe Tonzuso, shows lava exploding from Etna’s south-east crater. “The activity was characterized by Strombolian explosions, with lava jets hundreds of meters high above the crater rim,and two lava flows (one directed south and another to the south-east),” the source told Storyful. “The eruptive activity was also characterized by roars audible from the villages on the slopes of the volcano.” Credit: Giuseppe Tonzuso via Storyful
