On Tuesday, India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar announced that he had discussions with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio regarding trade, essential minerals, and energy.
“Just wrapped up a productive conversation with Secretary Rubio. We talked about trade, vital minerals, nuclear collaboration, defense, and energy,” he stated in a post on the social media platform X.
India and the United States aim to increase bilateral trade to over $500 billion by 2030, with New Delhi committing to purchase more energy and defense equipment from the U.S. to reduce the trade imbalance, despite previous trade negotiations last year not resulting in a conclusive agreement.
The inability to finalize a deal had driven the Indian rupee to an all-time low, creating anxiety among investors eager for advancement in bilateral discussions.
