HomeFront hosts Sewing Space Spring Fashion Show

LAWRENCE — Creative fabric artists displayed personal productions Thursday during HomeFront’s Sewing Space Spring Fashion Show.

Presenters walked the runway and showed off outfits that received appreciative applause from guests inside a crowded HomeFront community area room.

HomeFront CEO Sarah Steward acknowledged her organization’s ArtSpace and SewingSpace programs as nurturing venues for clients to explore and embrace their creativity. Steward said these programs cultivate opportunities to see, “beauty, possibility, and potential of everyone.”

SewingSpace clients learn to sew and construct usable and sellable items, such as tote bags, handbags, pillows, holiday ornaments, and to learn techniques of re-upholstery.

Ruthann Traylor, director of Art Space/Sewing Space, and Medarda “Josita” Cardona, an integral sewing instructor, said both initiatives offer inspiration and life-changing opportunities to participants.
