French President Macron calls on Iran to free detained French citizens and expresses worry about its nuclear program.
French President Emmanuel Macron announced that he had a conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, reiterating his demand for the release of two French citizens held in Iran.

In a message on X, President Macron stated, “The Iranian President @drpezeshkian contacted me. I reiterated my strong demand: Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris must be freed. Their cruel detention is unjust. I expect them to come back to France.”

He also voiced his worries regarding Iran’s nuclear program. “I conveyed my serious concern about Iran’s nuclear ambitions. My stance remains unequivocal: Iran must never obtain nuclear weapons, and it is crucial for Iran to provide comprehensive assurances that its aims are peaceful,” he remarked.
The French President wrapped up by expressing optimism for diplomatic solutions, saying, “I believe there is a way to end conflict and prevent even greater risks. To facilitate this, we will expedite the negotiations led by France and its European allies with Iran.”
