External Affairs Minister Singh to Head Indian Delegation at UN Discussion on AI Governance
The Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, will lead the Indian delegation at the inaugural United Nations Global Dialogue on AI Governance in Geneva from July 6-7, as announced by the MEA on Sunday.

This Global Dialogue presents a distinctive chance to promote international governance of artificial intelligence (AI) in ways that enhance existing international, regional, national, and multi-stakeholder initiatives, the statement noted.

Singh, who also serves as the Minister of State for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, will head the Indian contingent to Geneva, Switzerland.
The Global Dialogue on AI Governance is a worldwide, multi-stakeholder UN forum established under General Assembly Resolution 79/325, following the Global Digital Compact adopted in September 2024 as part of the Pact of the Future.
“The dialogue, in collaboration with the Independent International Scientific Panel on AI—which fosters scientific understanding, transparency, accountability, and robust human oversight—will empower developing countries to steer AI systems towards achieving sustainable development,” stated the Ministry of External Affairs.

The Global Dialogue on AI in Geneva will also present the annual report from the Independent International Scientific Panel on AI (IISPA), which provides the first independent scientific assessment of AI’s capabilities, emerging opportunities, and associated risks, according to the MEA.

Discussions at the Dialogue will cover four thematic clusters focusing on AI’s social and economic implications, bridging AI divides, ensuring safe and trustworthy AI, and addressing human rights concerns in the context of AI, the MEA reported.

“Artificial intelligence is transforming economies, societies, and everyday lives. Its potential is substantial, but so are its risks. No nation can tackle these challenges in isolation. The AI Dialogue aims to ensure governance reflects the priorities of all countries, not just those at the forefront of technology, and that AI’s benefits are equitably distributed,” as stated on the UN website.

The initial session of the Global Dialogue on AI Governance is scheduled for July 6 and 7 in Geneva, with a subsequent session planned in New York in May 2027, according to the announcement.
