DMK to miss INDIA bloc meeting on June 8, citing ongoing grievances among members towards Congress.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin Calls for Complete Repeal of FCRA Amendment Bill, Labels It a 'Direct Assault' on Minority Institutions.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), led by MK Stalin, declared on Thursday, June 4, that it will not take part in the INDIA bloc meeting set for June 8 in New Delhi. This decision indicates a widening gap with the Congress party following the political repercussions of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

In an official statement, the party explained that the choice was made due to the sentiments of DMK supporters, who feel discontented with the actions of the Congress post-elections.

“…Given the sentiments of DMK cadres, who feel deeply wounded by what they perceive as the Congress party’s betrayal after the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections, and out of respect for these feelings, the DMK will not attend the INDIA alliance meeting scheduled for New Delhi on June 8,” the party stated.
However, the DMK emphasized that its choice to abstain from the meeting should not be seen as a withdrawal from its broader commitment to opposition initiatives. The party stated it will continue to advocate for issues affecting the nation’s welfare alongside its alliance partners.

This development follows Congress’s support for Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) during the post-poll political discussions in Tamil Nadu, despite its historical alliance with the DMK. This action drew sharp criticism from DMK leaders, who accused Congress of forsaking a long-standing partnership for political gain.

The tension in relations has also manifested in Parliament. DMK MP Kanimozhi recently reached out to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla requesting separate seating arrangements for DMK MPs, referring to the “changed political circumstances” after the split.
