CSK reports that the track, “Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney, chutney,” was played before their innings, stating that it was in poor taste as it is often associated with memes that reference South Indian stereotypes.
CSK managing director Kasi Viswanathan mentioned that the situation escalated beyond typical home support. “Usually, DJs are there to back the home team. However, at Chinnaswamy Stadium, the atmosphere was different. Certain remarks were directed at our players. In light of this, we have reached out to the BCCI to investigate the matter.”
The track, created by musician Gana Appu, has become a part of the RCB-CSK rivalry lately and is frequently featured in social media exchanges. The controversy traces back to last year when an RCB social media clip depicted Jitesh Sharma singing the same song, which garnered negative reactions from CSK supporters.
In response to that incident, CSK had implemented internal guidelines prohibiting comments that target opposing players or fans.
“Since that incident, there have been no further occurrences. The DJ is not meant to comment on opposition players. Additionally, we are grateful for our wonderful fanbase that cheers us on in great numbers,” said Viswanathan.
The BCCI governing council is anticipated to look into whether any conduct guidelines were violated during the match.
CSK boasts a strong record against RCB in their head-to-head IPL matchups, having won 21 out of 36 encounters thus far. However, since 2024, Bengaluru has managed to defeat Chennai three times consecutively.
