Carson High students shine at Shark Tank 2025 with bold business ideas


Carson High School was buzzing with innovation and excitement as nine student teams took center stage at Shark Tank 2025, presenting original business ventures to a panel of six esteemed Carson City community judges.

From cutting-edge tech solutions to wellness-focused apps, the event highlighted the talent, creativity, and entrepreneurial drive that define the school’s Business and Marketing program.

At the end of an inspiring competition, the winners were announced:

  • 3rd PlaceHalen Hoerth with Hydropack, a purpose-built hiking pack that supports hydration and comfort on the trail– $200 prize 
  • 2nd PlaceXander Smith with CX Prints, a customizable 3D printer for hobbyists geared toward producing fun, fidget-style items – $300 prize
  • 1st PlaceRuby Santacruz and Princess Ambulo with Crazy Dimes, an inflation tracking mobile app to help consumers make informed spending decisions– $500 prize

Each team came prepared with a comprehensive business plan and a live website, ready to impress a panel of judges with their innovative thinking, strategic planning, and polished presentations.

Other featured ideas included a high-tech gaming accessory designed to elevate the users experiencea digital platform for community resource communication and collaboration, a golf swing analyzer to help athletes refine their form, an AI-powered home improvement assistant for tackling household fixes, a wellness app that helps improve exercise form and a mental health app empowering users to take control of their well-being

Behind it all was Business and Marketing teacher Cody Downing, whose commitment to hands-on, real-world learning shone through every polished pitch. His guidance — and a robust curriculum — clearly paid off.

The judges’ probing questions created a true boardroom atmosphere, giving students invaluable experience presenting to professionals beyond the classroom.

More than a competition, Shark Tank 2025 was a celebration of young talent, bold ideas, and the power of education. Carson City can be proud of these students and grateful to educators like Cody Downing who are shaping tomorrow’s leaders and bringing their visions to life.
