The buffalo, weighing nearly 700 kg (1,543 lb), had already been sold for ritual slaughter when authorities intervened, citing safety concerns amid a rise in public interest ahead of Thursday’s celebration.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed instructed that the buffalo be spared, the buyer reimbursed, and the animal relocated to the national zoo in Dhaka.
“At the last moment, it was decided to spare the buffalo from sacrifice due to security concerns and the extraordinary level of public interest,” stated a ministry official.
What started as a typical Eid purchase quickly turned into a national sensation after videos gained traction online. Crowds flocked to the farm, with visitors traveling from distant places to admire its blond tuft and gentle demeanor.
Farm owner Ziauddin Mridha revealed that the name was inspired by his younger brother, who noticed the resemblance.
Mridha noted that the buffalo is exceptionally gentle and requires careful attention, including frequent feeding and regular bathing.
Albino buffaloes are quite rare in Bangladesh, where most cattle are dark, making this one stand out during the busy Eid livestock season—though it was likely its nickname that saved its life.
