BJP's Debangshu Panda Claims Falta Assembly Seat in Surprise Victory, Breaking TMC's Dominance Following Election Commission's Repetition of Polls
In a surprising twist, BJP candidate Debangshu Panda emerged victorious in the Falta assembly election on Sunday, defeating his competitors by a staggering margin of over 1.09 lakh votes, thereby ending the long-standing influence of the Trinamool Congress (TMC).

Panda garnered 1,49,666 votes, significantly outpacing his closest rival, CPI(M)’s Sambhu Nath Kurmi, who secured 40,645 votes. Congress candidate Abdur Razzak Molla came in third with 10,084 votes.

TMC candidate Jahangir Khan, who was a well-known figure in the election, fell to fourth place, receiving only 7,783 votes in a constituency of approximately 2.36 lakh voters.
Interestingly, Khan had declared his withdrawal from the race just two days prior to the repoll, stating it was a decision made for the benefit of Falta—a choice the TMC framed as personal.

This seat had been a TMC bastion since 2011, with the party celebrating a substantial victory in 2021, obtaining around 57% of the vote share.

The Election Commission mandated a repoll on May 21 at all 285 booths following claims of widespread irregularities during the April 29 election.

The recent voting occurred under a strong presence of central forces.
