On Monday, January 12, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced that Nitin Nabin is the sole candidate for the position of national president after the nomination process concluded at the party’s headquarters in Delhi.
At 45 years old, Nabin is currently the party’s national working president and has received 37 valid nomination papers, making him the only candidate put forth for consideration by the returning officer.
Out of these, 36 were submitted by representatives from various states and union territories, while one nomination came from the BJP’s National Council and Parliamentary Party, endorsed by prominent leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and outgoing president JP Nadda.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated Nabin via X, stating, “Met BJP National Working President Shri Nitin Nabin Ji. Congratulated him on his new responsibility and wished him the very best in his endeavours to strengthen the Party at the grassroots. I am confident that his organisational and administrative experience will be an asset for our Party as we all work together to fulfil people’s aspirations.”
With no other candidates having filed nominations, Nabin is set to be elected unopposed as the BJP’s 12th national president, indicating a generational shift in the party’s leadership.
The official announcement is anticipated on Tuesday morning, January 20, during an event at the party headquarters, which PM Modi is expected to attend.
