Assam increases MLA Local Area Development fund to ₹1.5 crore for FY27 and ₹2 crore for FY28.

The Assam Cabinet has authorized a staged rise in the yearly budget for the MLA Local Area Development (MLALAD) Scheme, increasing the funds available for each legislator from ₹1 crore to ₹1.5 crore for FY2026-27. Additionally, from FY2027-28, the allocation will be further raised to ₹2 crore per MLA, as stated by the Chief Minister’s Office. This increase in funding aims to provide legislators with enhanced financial support to carry out development projects and meet local infrastructure and community requirements within their constituencies.

The Assam government has raised the yearly fund for the MLA Local Area Development to ₹1.5 crore from the previous ₹1 crore for the fiscal year 2026-27, as detailed in an official order.

The Chief Minister’s Office, via a post on X, indicated that the state cabinet approved this decision.

“In the #AssamCabinet meeting led by HCM Dr @himantabiswa, it was decided to enhance the annual allocation under the MLALAD Scheme from ₹1 crore to ₹1.5 crore per MLA starting FY2026-27, with a further increase to ₹2 crore per MLA in FY2027-28,” it stated.
