One of the standout features is a streamlined transfer process for users migrating from Android devices, effectively supporting Apple’s initiative to attract new iPhone users. Additionally, users can anticipate improvements to Apple Maps, including smarter navigation tools and enhancements aimed at increasing usability.
“This update offers end-to-end encrypted RCS (beta) messaging and a downloadable Pride Luminance wallpaper, alongside various enhancements, bug fixes, and security updates for your iPhone,” Apple stated in a blog post.
Here’s what users can look forward to in the forthcoming software release.
End-to-end RCS encryption
Apple initially rolled out E2EE for RCS between iPhones and Android devices in the iOS 26.4 beta but later removed it from the stable version.
E2EE guarantees that messages exchanged between supported iOS and Android devices remain private, ensuring only the sender and recipient have access to them, with no third-party interference.
Suggested Places in Apple Maps
This feature recommends locations based on the user’s current location and past searches. The update also enables businesses in the US and Canada to display ads in map search results and at the top of Suggested Places.
New wallpapers and enhanced Android transfer options
iOS 26.5 streamlines the pairing of Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Mouse with iPhone or iPad. Users can connect these devices via USB-C once, and they will remain connected wirelessly during usage. The update introduces customizable wallpapers from the 2026 Pride Collection, allowing users to choose 12 colors from a selection of 75 to create a unique theme.
Another new feature is iPhone-to-Android data transfer. Building on improvements from iOS 26.4 with Google, iOS 26.5 enables users to transfer message attachments by time frame, such as last year, the past 30 days, or all messages.
Looking ahead, Apple plans to unveil iOS 27 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 on June 8, with the initial developer beta expected to be released the same day.
