Amazon India invests ₹2,800 crore to prioritize employee well-being.
Amazon India has revealed plans to invest over ₹2,800 crore (around $300 million) aimed at enhancing the safety, health, and financial stability of its associates while also expanding its logistics network throughout the nation.

This announcement is part of Amazon’s broader commitment to invest over $35 billion in India by 2030, specifically targeting the workforce that drives its warehouses and delivery services.

Central to this investment is a range of welfare programs designed for associates, which Amazon claims will benefit tens of thousands of workers and more than 200,000 community members.
The company will expand Project Ashray, its initiative offering air-conditioned rest stops for delivery associates, beyond the current 100 locations in cities including Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Mumbai. These facilities provide clean restrooms, drinking water, charging stations, and first-aid resources, currently serving over 150,000 delivery associates monthly.

Additionally, Amazon plans to enhance Sushruta, a health and wellness program for long-haul truck drivers and their families, while also launching a new initiative that focuses on mental health and ergonomic care. Nationwide medical camps will offer free health check-ups, including preventive screenings for eye health, dental needs, BMI, and consultations with physicians.

On the financial security side, the Samriddhi program will assist associates in enrolling in government schemes such as Ayushman Bharat and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, along with e-Shram cards and pension initiatives across seven states.

The company is also enhancing its Group Mediclaim and Group Personal Accident insurance policies for delivery associates, which are touted as among the most comprehensive in the industry.

Children of associates will also benefit, as the Pratidhi scholarship program provides funding and mentorship for students from Class 3 to Class 12, including those with disabilities. In 2025 alone, Amazon awarded 5,000 scholarships of this kind.

Expanding the Delivery Network

In addition to workforce welfare, Amazon is investing significantly in infrastructure. The company plans to expand fulfillment centres, sortation centres, and delivery stations, particularly focusing on tier 2 and tier 3 cities.

Quick commerce represents a key growth area. Amazon Now, the company’s 10-minute delivery service launched in 2025, has already scaled to over 300 micro-fulfillment centres. Amazon now aims to more than double this presence, strengthening its foothold in existing cities and exploring new ones.

Technology will be pivotal in this expansion. Amazon intends to implement AI and machine learning tools to identify unsafe driving practices, encourage rest breaks, and evaluate route complexities to ensure fair workload distribution among delivery partners. Updates to the Driver app will also enhance navigation for challenging addresses, earnings transparency, and overall workflow efficiency.

The 2026 investment follows a ₹2,000 crore (~$233 million) expenditure in 2025, which led to the launch of 17 new fulfillment centres, six sortation centres, and 75 last-mile delivery stations across India.

“At the core of this network are our people, and we remain dedicated to improving associate safety, health, and financial well-being,” said Abhinav Singh, VP of Operations at Amazon India and Australia.
