Airport hotels drive hospitality expansion as India's aviation infrastructure grows.
The growing aviation infrastructure in India is becoming a significant driver for growth in the hospitality sector, as major hotel chains increase investments in properties linked to airports. This surge is fueled by rising air traffic, enhanced regional connectivity, and the establishment of new urban corridors.

Hotel industry leaders indicate that the increase in greenfield airports and better access to tier-II and tier-III cities is generating robust demand for hotels near airports, which serve business travelers, transit passengers, airline crews, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) traffic.

Nikhil Sharma, Managing Director & COO, South Asia, of Radisson Hotel Group, remarked to PTI that airport hotels are becoming a rapidly growing segment within the hospitality industry as India fast-tracks airport infrastructure improvements.
“The swift growth of airport infrastructure across India, especially greenfield projects, is setting airport hotels as a high-potential segment in the hospitality field,” Sharma stated.

“With enhancements in air connectivity, we are noticing a distinct increase in demand for strategically located hotels that serve transit passengers, airline crews, and business travelers looking for convenience, efficiency, and smooth access to major commercial areas,” he added.

Sharma noted that the hotel chain is actively expanding its presence in airport-focused micro-markets experiencing significant commercial and urban growth.

“We will keep exploring opportunities that align with our growth strategy and allow us to enhance our presence in India’s evolving aviation and hospitality sector,” Sharma mentioned.

Gaurav Singh, COO of Chalet Hotels Limited, commented that the expansion of airport infrastructure is reshaping hospitality demand dynamics by improving accessibility to upcoming destinations.

“The growth of airport infrastructure across India is playing a vital role in transforming hospitality demand, particularly by enhancing access to markets that were once seen as peripheral or seasonal,” Singh declared.

“We are already witnessing increased interest in locations that have gained better air connectivity, with demand becoming more stable and less reliant on peak travel seasons,” he added.

Singh highlighted that improved connectivity is also diversifying the profile of travelers in various destinations.

Enhanced connectivity is broadening the types of travelers, attracting not only leisure demand but also corporate and MICE segments to areas that were historically more leisure-oriented. This leads to more stable occupancy rates and improved demand quality throughout the year,” he stated.
