Ashwin, who has represented India in 287 matches across all formats and claimed 765 wickets, concluded his international career in 2024 and wrapped up his Indian Premier League (IPL) tenure last year.
At 39 years old, Ashwin stands as India’s second-highest wicket-taker in test cricket, following Anil Kumble. He was initially set to play for Sydney Thunder in Australia’s Big Bash League but had to withdraw due to a knee injury.
“Assuming the role of the first Indian-capped player in Major League Cricket is a significant responsibility that I wholeheartedly accept,” Ashwin stated.
“My primary goal is to contribute to the franchise’s success in winning games and striving for our first championship while delivering an exciting brand of cricket for the Bay Area fans.”
The MLC is set to kick off its fourth season on June 18.
