Donald Trump Claims the US Will Collect $600 Billion in Tariffs

Trump suggests the US will oversee Venezuela until a secure power transition occurs.
President Donald Trump announced on Monday (January 5) that the US is set to collect over US$600 billion in tariffs, claiming that the nation is “far stronger” in terms of national security and finances due to the tariffs imposed on various countries.

“We have collected, and will soon be collecting, more than $600 billion in tariffs, yet the Fake News Media fails to cover this because they despise and disrespect our country and aim to disrupt the crucial tariff decision ahead, one of the most significant in United States Supreme Court history,” Trump stated in a post on Truth Social.

He emphasized that the US is financially and in terms of national security “far stronger” and more respected than ever because of these tariffs.
Just months into his second term, Trump revealed in 2025 a series of tariffs on imports from numerous countries, asserting that the US had been treated unfairly and that other nations were imposing significantly higher tariffs on American goods.

Trump has enacted 50% tariffs on India, which includes 25% on its purchases of Russian oil.
