Neeraj Chopra Secures Gold Medal at the 2025 Ostrava Golden Spike Event

Neeraj Chopra triumphs over Julian Weber to claim the Paris Diamond League championship.
Neeraj Chopra secured the gold medal at the esteemed 64th Ostrava Golden Spike on Tuesday, a premier one-day athletics event in Europe. This victory marked his second consecutive title, following his win at the Paris Diamond League last Friday, showcasing another outstanding performance at the home venue of his legendary coach, Zelezny.

The Czech icon, now 59, claimed nine titles between 1986 and 2006, several of which included throws exceeding 90 meters in this prestigious event, which debuted in 1961. While Chopra has participated in Ostrava before, it wasn’t at the Golden Spike. He represented the Asia Pacific team during the IAAF Continental Cup in 2018, finishing sixth with a throw of 80.24m.

The 27-year-old Chopra has had a remarkable season to date, winning his first Diamond League title in two years in Paris and breaking the elusive 90m mark during his second-place finish in Doha DL in May.
“As a kid, I watched many videos and photos of athletes like Usain Bolt competing here. I visited last year but couldn’t compete due to an injury. Now, I feel great, although I don’t want to pressure myself regarding 90m. I’ll give it my all,” Chopra expressed prior to Tuesday’s competition.

“We’ve been training well in Nymburk (near Prague), so I’ll strive to perform my best here in Ostrava.” After winning the Paris DL, the Indian athlete discussed the importance of strengthening his core muscles for better throw control, acknowledging that his run-up might have been slightly too fast.
