Operation Sindoor: Government Calls All-Party Meeting to Update Opposition

PM Modi to lead a senior meeting with Union Ministers and officials on Wednesday.
The Centre has convened an all-party meeting at 11 am on Thursday, May 8, to inform the Opposition about the latest developments in Operation Sindoor, during which Indian Armed Forces initiated retaliatory strikes against terrorist hubs and infrastructure in Pakistan in the early hours of May 7.

The Congress party has expressed hope that PM Modi will participate in the meeting. Congress leader and spokesperson Jairam Ramesh stated, “We had requested the PM’s presence at the April 24 meeting, but he did not attend; he should at least be present at tomorrow’s all-party session,” according to PTI.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also voiced support for the Indian Armed Forces. “We take pride in our armed forces for their brave and decisive action against terror camps in Pakistan and PoK,” he mentioned during a press briefing.
The Opposition has extended its support for any actions the government might take following the Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in 26 deaths on April 22.

The Indian Armed Forces targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the early hours of Wednesday, May 7.

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi updated cabinet ministers and President Droupadi Murmu.

Home Minister Amit Shah has also summoned a meeting of Chief Ministers (CMs) and Directors General of Police (DGPs) from border states following Operation Sindoor.

The Indian Army struck terrorist base camps in Pakistan, ensuring that no military infrastructure was impacted. The Army executed two significant strikes on the Subhan Allah complex in Bahawalpur, a stronghold of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). The strikes killed 10 members of JeM chief Masood Azhar’s family along with four of his associates.

The wife and nephew of the JeM chief, as well as his elder sister and brother-in-law, a UN-designated terrorist, were among those killed in India’s Operation Sindoor, as reported by PTI. Pakistan has condemned India’s military action as an assault and a heinous act, with the Pakistani PM promising retaliation. However, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khwaja Asif remarked that Pakistan is prepared to de-escalate if India halts its operations.

“We have to defend ourselves,” Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said in an interview with Bloomberg Television following India’s military strikes on its territory.

“This has been initiated by India. If India is ready to back down, they have taken the initiative, we have merely responded. We have consistently stated that we will not initiate any hostile actions towards India. But if we are attacked, we will respond. If India backs down, we will definitely bring these matters to a close. However, as long as we are under fire, we have to respond,” Asif added.
