Trump and Xi Expected to Discuss Minerals Trade Conflict Soon, Says Treasury's Bessent
U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent expressed confidence that President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping will soon communicate to address trade concerns, including a conflict regarding critical minerals.

On Friday, President Trump accused China of breaching a deal with the U.S. that involved mutually reducing tariffs and trade barriers for key minerals.

”China is currently withholding products essential for the industrial supply chains of India and Europe. That is not the behavior of a trustworthy partner,” Bessent stated in a Sunday interview with CBS’ ”Face the Nation.”
”I am optimistic that when President Trump speaks with Party Chairman Xi, these issues will be resolved. However, the fact that they are not providing some products they promised during our agreement could be a glitch in the Chinese system, or perhaps it’s deliberate. We will know more after the President has his conversation with the party chairman.”

Trump stated on Friday that he was confident he would talk to Xi. China mentioned in April that the two leaders hadn’t spoken recently.

When asked if a conversation with Xi was on Trump’s agenda, Bessent replied, ”I believe we’ll see something very soon.”
